Emerging Word:
exploring the Bible through Creation Spirituality
I'm Donald Schmidt: writer, teacher, dreamer,
wonderer, kahu (minister) at Waiola Church United
Church of Christ on the island of Maui, Hawaii.

I'm passionate about life, justice, hope, creation, and
the church of Jesus Christ.

I'm concerned about the climate of fear that
obsesses so many in our world, and what feels like a
desire to use the Bible as a weapon, as a tool for
building walls rather than bridges, as a collection of
words rather than a vessel for God's Word.

I like to write books, to engage in conversation, to
explore stories, and to wonder. Perhaps you do, too.
I invite you to check out my books, to visit our
church, to invite me to your church for conversation,
to attend a workshop (or plan one), and to be in
ongoing conversation about God's word that is alive
and moving in our world, not stuck on a shelf or
locked in a box.
Rev. Dr. Donald Schmidt was born in
British Columbia, Canada. He holds a
BA in comparative religion and a BTh
from McGill University, and an MDiv
from United Theological College (both
in Montreal), and a DMin from Wisdom
University in San Francisco. He was
ordained in the United Methodist
Church and holds standing in the United
Church of Christ.
